Famous and Best Mexican Actors and Actresses

In honor of the Cinco de Mayo (May 5) celebration, I will feature in this hub the beautiful, best and famous Mexican actresses and actors. Cinco de Mayo is a celebration in Mexico and in other parts of the world where there Mexicans in honor of the battle won against the French colonizers. In essence, the Cinco De Mayo celebration commemorates the Mexican army's unlikely victory over the forces of the French on May 5, 1862 at Puebla, Mexico. Here at Dallas, TX, USA it is celebrated by the Mexicans. Since Texas is bordered by the Mexico, there are lots of immigrants here and they celebrate it with gusto. Some activities  include, food, music and dancing.

There are lots of many Mexican famous and best actors and actresses who are well known in the world of arts, music and entertainment, In this hub, I will focus on the entertainment industry. Here are the list of the famous and best Mexican actors and actresses.

Salma Hayek is a Mexican actress, film producer and director. She is into charity as well and that includes increasing awareness on the violence against women plus help with immigration. She is the first Mexican national to be nominated for the Academy award since Dolores Del Rio-- another top Mexican actress.

• In July 2007, The Hollywood Reporter ranked Hayek fourth in their inaugural Latino Power 50, a list of the most powerful members of the Hollywood Latino community.
• In 2007 a poll found Hayek to be the "sexiest celebrity" out of a field of 3,000 celebrities

• Hayek is the first Mexican national to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress. She is one of the most prominent Mexican figures in Hollywood since silent film actress Dolores Del Rio.
• After fernanda Montenegro, she is the the second of three Latin American actresses (the other being Catalina Sandino Moreno) to achieve a Best Actress Oscar nomination.

George Lopez is considered America's King of Mexicans. He is a comedian, actor, and talk show host. He is mostly known for starring in his self-produced sitcom George Lopez. His type of comedies are : race and ethnic relations, including his own culture -- Mexican-American. He is currently the host of the late-night talk show Lopez Tonight on TBS. When he was interviewing Chris Rock this April 2010 in his show he told Chris that when Pres. Obama was still campaigning for the presidency, he called him personally to help with the Mexican votes.

George Lopez is also into charity, he has his own foundation who helps the poor. He also plays golf, quite controversial at times but he managed to stay away from trouble.

Ariadna Thalía Sodi Miranda known simply as Thalía, is a singer (Mexican) and former actress who appeared in telenovela series (her soap operas have been watched by over 2 billion people in 180 countries). Thalia has been my favorite actress as I watched her when I was still in the Philippines.She is famous for the telenovela series she appeared in all over the world.

• She is considered the queen of soap operas (biggest TV phenomenon in the 90s)
• One of the most famous Latin singers ever
• Thalía has received more than 2,000 awards throughout her career for both singing and acting and is a multi-platinum singer.
• She is very sexy and beautiful

Birthdate : August 26, 1971

Selena Quintanilla-Pérez , best known as simply Selena, was a Mexican American singer who has been called MUsic Que of Tejano. She was the youngest child of a Mexican-American couple, Selena released her first album at the age of twelve. She was murdered by the president of her fans club when she was only 23 years old. George Bush -- the then ggovernow of texas declared her birthday -- Selena Day In Texas.J Lo portrayed her in the movie about her life -- Selena.

• Her fame grew throughout the early 1990s, especially in Spanish-speaking countries.

Anthony Quinn was a Mexican actor, painter, film director and a writer. he appeared in many films including commercially successful and well acclaimed ones.

He won the Academy Award fior best Supporting actir twice; for Viva Zapata! in 1952 and Lust for Life in 1956.

Birthdate : April 21, 1915 – Dead : June 3, 2001. He had 13 children all in all.

Dolores del Río was a Mexican film actress. She was frequently referred to as the "Princess of México". She was a star of Hollywood films (during the silent era) and in the Golden Age of Hollywood. She is said to be the version of Rudolph Valentino in the silent film era. Del Río was one of the principal stars of Mexican films from the golden Age of Mexican cinema in the 1940s and 1950s. She was the perfect representation, by excellence, of Mexican female beauty in all the world.

Recognition :

• She was generally thought to be one of the most beautiful actresses of her era and was the first Latin American movie star to have international appeal.
• She was considered one of the principal Art Deco symbols of beauty.
• In the early 1940s she began a polemic romance with Orson Welles and that was the key reason why she decided to return to Mexico.

Birthdate : August 3, 1905 – Dead : April 11, 1983

Lupe Velez was a Mexican film actress but began her career in Mexico as a dancer and then later on she moved in the US and worked in vaudeville. She was spotted by an agent and started her film career and made her first film in 1924. With the advent of films with talking pictures, Lupe Velez acted in comedies. She later on moved to New York and worked in Broadway.

Birthdate : July 18, 1908 – Dead : December 13, 1944

Katy Jurado was born María Cristina Estela Marcela Jurado García in Guadalara, Mexico and was the first Mexican National actress to be nominated for an Academy Award.

Recognitions :

• First Mexican and Latina to be nominated for an Academy Award.
• In 1966 she reprised her "Helen Ramirez" role from "High Noon" (1952) in a "High Noon" TV pilot called "The Clock Strikes Noon Again" which co-stared Peter Fonda as the son of Will Kane.
• In 1992 she was honoreed with the Golden Boot award award for her notable contribution to the western films.

Adriana Barraza is a Mexican film director, tv and film actress. She has been nominated for numerous awards : Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild Award, Broadcast Film Critics Association Association plus the famous and prestigious Academy award for Best supporting Actress. Barraza is the third Mexican actress to be nominated for an the Oscars Academy award-- in a year when ten Mexicans were nominated at the 79th Oscar Academy Awards.

Sara García was a Mexican actress who was famous during the "Golden Age of Mexican cinema. Her roles are no-nonsense grandmother who is loving in Mexican films. She also played in telenovelas.

Birthdate : September 8, 1895 – Dead : November 21, 1980)

Eduardo Kuno Becker Paz is a Mexican actor who appeared in telenovelas, in US and Mexican cinemas too. He is known for his portrayl of Ruben Berrizabal in Sonadoras and Santiago Muñez in the football movie GOALand the following sequels.

Carlos Gallardo is a Mexican producer, actor, screenwriter, director and help his friend Robert Rodriguez in filmmaking industry.

Awards and Recognition :

• Gallardo's first taste of fame came with the feature film El Mariachi, a nice and a critically-acclaimed film renowned for costing US$7,000 to make. This film won the 1993 Sundance Film Festival and won Gallardo an Independent Spirit Award for Best First Feature (he shared this award with his friend Rodriguez
• Following the film El Mariachi, Gallardo went on to be co-producer of the Robert Rodriguez-directed Mexico trilogy sequels -- Desperado, Once Upon A Time in Mexico. The films featured Antonio Banderas in the role of El Mariachi, in place of Gallardo. Gallardo did have a cameo role
