What Not to Wear When You Are Pregnant : Fashion Maternity Flops. The question that most women ask during pregnancy is "what can I wear when I am pregnant?". My answer is as long as you are confident that others will look at you with that "shame look", its ok, but when others are looking at you like you are an alien or weird then something is not right. When women are pregnant, they are beautiful yes, but they can still in fashion and style even though they are carrying a baby. Read my previous hub about what to wear when you are pregnant here -- What to Wear When You Are Pregnant : 5 Best Fashion Maternity Tips and I hope you fins it useful. I also wrote about Beautiful and Sexy Pregnant Celebrities In Style, but we are not celebrity, unless you are one, then you can wear the fashion style of celebrities. Mostly, it concerns with the comfort of being pregnant like for example, you cant definitely wear skinny jeans without the garter at the belly, maternity pants are preferred because of comfort that it gives the woman. Imagine being pregnant already, you need to be at ease and can perform ordinary task with ease, if you are not at ease with your clothes, you feel discomfort and irritable.
Even Brooke Burke, a TV personality and a dancer in the image below, I think she is not comfortable with what she is wearing even though she looks fantastic.
What Not to Wear When You Are Pregnant : Fashion Maternity Flops
What Not to Wear When You Are Pregnant : Fashion Maternity Flop 1
- Wearing a hang t-shirtthats shows your stomach and navel -- instead of a maternity blouse or shirt. I said in my last hub that it is best if a woman pregnant woman wear a tight maternity pants and the pair it with a loose maternity blouse or vice versa, but when you are wearing also like Brooke Burke above -- or you are wearing a hang tee that shows your navel and you are walking around at the store or anywhere, it does create discomfort to you and the people around you.
- Wearing a tube blouse when you are pregnant is never comfortable to the pregnant woman and the baby
What Not to Wear When You Are Pregnant : Fashion Maternity Flop 2
- Wearing too loose clothes that make you look like a tent or hanger ons - yes it looks comfortable but it doesn't actually accentuate your curves, well flaunt your body and style when you are pregnant, being loose and lousy doesn't boost morale or self confidence, especially when you have your moods or are grumpy, wearing a nice maternity outfit boosts your spirits.
- Forcing to wear your old inappropriate underwear that are not fitting when you are not pregnant like t- back, thongs etc. It is simply uncomfortable and it might burst, then you will feel the more uncomfortable, I think one feels sexy when you are confident and wear the proper undergarments, bra, underwear, slip ons etc. This goes with wearing thongs, t-back or boy short, as it is really brings doscomfort and it is a bugger.
What Not to Wear When You Are Pregnant : Fashion Maternity Flop 3
- Wearing short shorts plus a t shirt when one is outside the house and pregnant makes one look funnyand the discomfort it brings is not commensurate to the attention and curiosity you are getting.
What Not to Wear When You Are Pregnant : Fashion Maternity Flop 4
- Wearing high heeled shoes which you walk like funny and uncomfortable and the danger of you falling over, A good one to one half inches of a shoe is still ok, but beyond that is already uncomfortable, and yes this depends on the stage of pregnancy you are in. There are also available good flat and trendy shoes for women, so why not choose it, besides your feet will swell a little bit when you are pregnant so just be sure that your shoes are really comfortable.
What Not to Wear When You Are Pregnant : Fashion Maternity Flop 5
- Wearing a one piece maternity clothes above the knee and just below the woman's private parts (see Britney here) or underwear is not good to see. When one is pregnant, the tendency when you wear this type of clothes is that you look plump and round plus not only that, the wind may blow your clothes and we will know what we are going to see.
What Not to Wear When You Are Pregnant : Fashion Maternity Flop 6
- Forcing to wear your old pants, Buy a maternity pants one which doesn't show your navel. Another pants to avoid is hip hop pants or low pants. This is obvious as the one who is looking at you might be scared that you're going to drop that pants
Some other maternity flops :
- Don't wear your husbands or boyfriends shirt or forced your old clothes to fit in you
- Buy maternity wear in different stages of pregnancy, clothes that fit you when you are three months pregnant is definitely not fitting anymore when you are five or nine months pregnant
- Choose color with variations not always dull like black all the time
- Being comfortable at all times is very important.

Before I was even pregnant I recall seeing a pregnant woman in a restaurant. She looked beautiful. Her outfit was neat and appropriate in a pretty maternity smock or blouse -- and worse it over a slim skirt. Her shoes, hair, makeup - the whole look was attractive and put-together. Styles have changed but the principles of looking good haven't. Pregnance is a time when a woman needs to look her best self and feel her best self. Whatever the styles are, that is always possible.
Bright colors & accessories closer to your face will draw attention to your face & your smile, not to the middle! haha - look at yourself in a full-length mirror before you leave your house.
Think about how other people will respond - whether they'll be embarrassed for you or is they will hardly think about your even being pregnant, you'll seem so at ease and appropriate.
If you simply apply a good self-checklist you won't have to be concerned about the exact outfit. And it's only for 9 months - soon you'll be able to wear the cute things!
very interesting prettydarkhorse ! i like what you write and let me add i think the best way to look good while pregnant is not to be stubborn and try to squeeze urself in normal clothes..just buy a maternety dress and u will look the best!!
We love you Maita...maybe Quill should design something more comfy...lets see Bib Overalls...simple nice look and always in style.
Be Blessed
Some great points. There are Lady's out there that should take your advice. Have a great night Maita.
Great job as always, Maita. Although, I have to admit, I personally, love the look of a pregnant belly. All I see is life and a miracle just waiting to be born. In public is another story and as you said you must be comfortable with what you are wearing. Maternity fashions have come a long way.
Sage
I might be old fashioned but I also don't think showing the stomach makes you look good. Great hub, well done.
You are so right about this and I commend you fro having the courage for saying something.
Great information! Pregnant women are so beautiful! I hate to see them in big frumpy man clothes but in cute maternity clothes that look comfortable and pretty and don't completely hide that perfect belly. :) Fabulous hub as always!
Great work on this Hub. I will share the information with others . Nicely done again .
Thank you for doing the research and writing this Hub

As Always also a2z50
Why do they want to show off their bellies? I don't get it...
Great hub and I loved maternity clothes when I was pregnant and now they have the cutest clothes for pregnancy. I enjoyed your hub I thought you did a good job as always.
Women with belly looks more sexy, different 'flavour'which can be tasted within 9 months only!(smile)
dont wear anything pleaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaas
I think they all look fantastic!!!
wow i can't believe those women wore that.. maxim is disgusting anyway but wow. lol.
Both of us had our children a long time ago, and the fashion then was for tent-like maternity dresses. They were comfortable, but certainly not flattering.
Good advice, prettydarkhorse. I doubt even the celibrities wear these tummy showing styles around their own neighborhood. It would definitely get attention in Wal-mart. LOL. (: v
Good advice :) It was definitely hard when pregnant to find something suitable and appropriate. I didn't want to wear sweatpants all the time, so I spent more money than necessary, but at least I didn't look like a whore. It was also hard to find something comfortable. I remember one friend of mind wore sweatpants all the time, and just looked horrible!
Well..................
I think this is more of a ladies' hub, but sincerely speaking its a nice one. Keep up the good work.
Great hub
Those are definitely practical tips. I love the pics they are entertaining at the same time. We all have preferences but it pays a lot if we heed tips like those mentioned in this article. Thanks for sharing and good job!
Hmmm. On just a few of these...you know, there's something sexy (if I can say that) about a pregnant woman. But yes, you have mentioned some very, shall we just say, potentially bad ideas for what to wear. Great hub Maita, as always.
Nice hub. I've seen some ladies (no offense to all ladies out there) with pregnancy clothes which don't really look quite right on them. Either looking too tight or too sexy. Great hub here.
Thanks Maita. This hub was totally beautiful. You give us some useful tips about fashion. But it different like other fashion. Spacial clothes for pregnant woman. I'll bookmark this one and I'll show to my future wife. Vote this up.

nice hub..... keep it up....
pregnant fashion is very interesting article thanks for sharing
yeah right. During my pregnancy with my first baby I use to be a fashion statement mom. Wearing those comfortable dresses, and making sure that the baby is also comfortable. Well in fact I also share those ideas to my soon to be mom friends. Great post.
Yes! I also do they same. And choose those kinds of dresses when I was pregnant.
UR ADVICE RIGHT
This is a topic that most poeple and especially women need to know. I mean this was something that I never would have thought of; needless to say it's important for the Women, Husband and of course the Baby!
Thanks for sharing you HubPage, it is very useful!!
Nice and very informative hub.Thank you for your opinion of this matter.it is a very common question and very simple answer of his question.you should loose dress when you are a pregnant.don't wear tight dress.
Great hub. Your advice is perfectly right: no old trousers and no short. I saw many pregnant moms wearing high heals. I think it's really crazy. It's a dangerous!
It's not that pregnant gals shouldn't wear certain things they like, in my opinion... they just shouldn't wear it out of the house? :)
I enjoyed this hub, Maita. Thx for sharing!
I think those are good, general rules for all women to follow, pregnant or not! I never want to see your underwear, and I personally can go without seeing anyone's navel. Clothes should be flattering and appropriately tailored for the body type :)
Well I guess being pregnant does not make an excuse from being outdated to the latest trends. I'll try these tips once I become pregnant. :) Nice hub!
Honestly, part of me feels if you are comfortable in it, why not wear it. But I do know, that you don't look very classy, for instance in the showing too much, or too short dress. Although you do have a point with the whole high heel thing! Personally, I wouldn't want to show my pregnant tummy too everyone, and I think you should present yourself with some class. What you choose to wear pregnant or not, is a reflection of who you are. Do you want to portray yourself as... well... loose. People may be wondering if you know who the baby daddy is?
The pregnant women should wear as they wish but it is good to think how comfy is the baby inside the womb.
It is a good hub and keep it up. Thanks.
Woman looks sexier with the big pregnant belly...Thanks for the info :)
Comfy comes first
great hub!
Thanks for the great tips!
Fitted figure skimming outfits/dresses/shirts look up to date and awesome on pregnant women assuming they are in shape otherwise.
Gotta bookmark this hub...when and if...
got a bookmarked
I've bookmark this one!!
nice
please visit my site,thanks
This is hilarious! You are so spot on.
exposing your belly...fashionable but there are too many consequences, i think. my mum taught me that if tummy is exposed to cold air, it might give me a tummy ache.
Definitely great pointers and surely they all make legitimate sense. Some women carry a bit different then other which gives them reason to believe that they can get away with some of the fashion statements they represent. Very good read as I admired my wife when she was pregnant with my daughter and found her to be very cuddly and cute in the process but she was very deiscrete with what she wore.
The included photos are really cute. this was helpful.
What a brillant article this is one that I just have to share with my daughter who is 5 and half months pregnant. Thanks. Ana
Maternity clothes are so tough! You don't want to spend too much money, but you don't want to look shabby either. I've found that buying from Maternity resale shops is a great option. Let's face it, the longest any pre-mommy wears an outfit is 9 months. ;)
I love this article cause some pregnant women do not know how to dress and you see them in the stores and they are showing a little to much. And im glad someone feels the same way i do very good article
I may have no right to voice out in this hub, but I'd like to add that this topic is really good. I've seen some pregnant women out there and though I respect them for being pregnant and carrying a life within them, sometimes their clothes wear are not so comfortable to see. Like being too tight or sexy and it kinds of restrict certain movements from them. Those loose fitting and really comfortable looking clothes suit pregnant women the best and they can still look sexy in them. Hub up.;)
Maternity styles have definitely changed just in the past 5-10 years since I had my kids. Today, you'll see big pregnant bellies at the swimming pool with moms to be wearing bikinis. Would never have dreamed of that myself...
Well done PDK, my wife looked beautiful when she was pregnant and I swear after being pregnant her body is even more sexy than ever! Good pointers for those women that are having trouble adjusting!
Best,
Ben
Covering up the belly is a better way to feel comfortable and to avoid people looking like they have never seen a pregnant women before.
Good tips! When I was pregnant there were a lot of baby doll style tunics that fit over my belly but were still very trendy. I had a couple of maternity skirts and jeans with the comfy stretch waistband and lots of beautiful floaty blouses. Maternity clothes can be pretty expensive...so buying key pieces that you need (like pants and skirts) and substituting baby doll cut tops and blouses can save you some $. Plus you can wear them after the baby is born and still be fashionable.
Interesting and excellent article which is a must read for all lady hubbers.Yeah, you really made lots of point in here because i think that is high time our ladies the pregnant ones to be precise should always considers what they wear when pregnant.nice tips, thanks.
mast
I totally agree with you, some of these outfits are terrible. Great hub!
I totally agree with you, some of these outfits are terrible. Great hub!
wonderful post. It's about time someone addressed the elephant in the room. I am expecting my second child and could never imagine wearing those outfits! I want comfy but trendy, not awkward and (sometimes) trashy.
I think small dresses should be avoided during pregnancy.Try to wear clothes that always covers our body.It should be comfortable not tight.Try to ear complete clothes .Jeans and micro minis should be avoided
Most ladies want to maintain the status quo even when expecting, its better to look glamorous in maternity wear, than to hurt the baby or general health of the mother trying to fit in what you wore before pregnancy.
Ladies you can still dress the part and look gorgeous in that flowy dress or nice pants or low heeled shoe, its good for you future health.
Nice.Pregnancy brings many changes to your body.Choosing clothes is very difficult during this time So firstly see what type of clothes you like then you have to go for the shopping of maternity clothes. You have to select only that clothes which are comfortable and flexible.
Nice article. You don't have to wear transparent and tight maternity clothes during pregnancy time because tight clothes are really harmful for pregnant women.Pregnant women has to wear only funky, loose and flexible clothes.
It's a nice article, but it makes me glad that I rarely leave home, according to this I'm probably laughed at when I do. This pregnancy I don't have any of my maternity clothes (they're in a different state) and I can't really go out and get new stuff. So I'm stuck with my jeans and t-shirts and whatever clothes I can make do with (basically anything that covers the baby bump still). In hopes of having a little money to spend on myself for the holiday season, I hope I found a similar (but opposite) article with things I can actually wear, on a tight budget and limited options. Maybe then I can leave home more often, more comfortably!
Nice fashion! I love it!
